Under stress, uncertainty or prolonged pressure, our awareness can become like a tunnel.
We focus on the problem.
Then we focus on our failure to solve the problem.
The same thoughts circle. The same options appear. The same old responses keep stepping forward because they are familiar, even when they are no longer useful.
This can happen around work, burnout, relationships, creativity, purpose or a wider sense that the life you have built no longer fits in quite the same way.
Nothing may be obviously broken.
You may still be functioning, working, parenting and keeping things moving.
But something has tightened.
Transpersonal coaching helps widen the field again.
Not by handing you a better answer, but by helping you notice more of what is already present: the body, the story, the pattern, the feeling, the instinct and the part of you that may have been drowned out by noise.
When the field widens, new possibilities can become visible.
Conventional coaching often focuses on goals, plans and performance.
Those things can be useful. Sometimes they are exactly what is needed.
But people are not spreadsheets and most meaningful change is not created by adding another action point to an already full week.
Transpersonal coaching works with the whole person.
That includes your thoughts and choices, but also your body, emotions, identity, imagination, values, creativity, relationships, sense of meaning and, where relevant, spiritual experience.
The word transpersonal means beyond the usual, familiar sense of self.
It doesn’t mean ignoring ordinary life or trying to become someone mystical.
It means recognising that you are more than the role you play, the problem you are facing or the story you have learned to repeat.
The work creates room to explore what may be operating beneath the obvious question.
A career decision may also be an identity decision.
A creative block may carry fear, grief or an old need for approval.
Burnout may not only be about workload. It may be connected to the version of you who learned to keep going regardless of the cost.
We stay curious about the wider picture, while bringing the work back to three things: what’s present, what it means and what happens next.
People come to transpersonal coaching for different reasons.
You may:
You do not need to arrive with a polished goal.
A feeling, tension or half-formed question is often enough to begin.
You do not need to know exactly what you are looking for before you begin.
Start with the doorway that feels closest to where you are now.
For people who feel stuck, restless or ready for change and sense that an old way of living no longer fits.
Create space to understand what’s shifting, notice recurring patterns and find grounded next steps.
For people preparing for a psychedelic, plant medicine or non-ordinary experience.
Two sessions before and two afterwards support preparation, meaning-making and grounded integration.
I’m Steve Linney, a transpersonal coach trained through Alef Trust and working towards accreditation with IACTM.
My role is not to tell you who to become.
It is to create a clear, grounded space where you can notice more of what is happening, understand the patterns or identities involved and decide what movement makes sense from there.
The work may draw on several approaches.
Open awareness helps create distance from the constant stream of thought, allowing you to notice experience without immediately trying to control it.
Somatic inquiry brings attention to the body. Tension, movement, sensation and breath can offer information that the thinking mind has learned to negotiate away.
Parts work recognises that different aspects of us can want different things. One part may want change while another protects the familiar. Neither needs to be treated as the enemy.
Depending on what is useful, the work may also include reflective questioning, imagery, journalling, nature-based inquiry, values exploration, movement or sound.
My background includes more than 20 years in marketing, strategy and communication, alongside decades of DJing, music production and sound work.
Marketing taught me to listen for the story beneath the story. Music taught me about attention, rhythm, emotion and what can shift when the conditions feel right.
You can read more about my journey on the About page.
These methods and experiences shape how I listen, but they are not a formula imposed on every client.
The client leads the material.
I hold the frame, follow the thread and help bring what emerges back into everyday life.
Transpersonal coaching is not about choosing a goal and pushing towards it before we have understood why that goal matters to you.
It also is not about endlessly analysing yourself without anything changing.
Instead, it creates space to explore the deeper influences behind your choices, including identity, beliefs, emotions, body awareness, values and your sense of meaning.
That wider perspective can help you understand why you feel stuck and what kind of change would genuinely fit your life.
For example, we might explore whether your idea of success is truly yours, how an old role or pattern has helped protect you or what your body is communicating when your thoughts keep going in circles.
The coaching then brings that awareness back into everyday life.
That may lead to a conversation you need to have, a clearer boundary, a decision that needs more time or a small practical step that helps you learn what feels right.
Insight is valuable, but the purpose of transpersonal coaching is to help that insight become part of how you live, choose and move forward.
Transpersonal coaching can be a good fit if you’re curious enough to look beneath the obvious problem, but grounded enough to take responsibility for what you do with what you find.
You don’t need to be spiritual.
You don’t need experience of meditation, body-based work or transpersonal psychology.
You do need some willingness to slow down, look at the question from more than one angle and notice what your thoughts, emotions, body and wider experience may be telling you.
The work may be especially relevant if you’re navigating midlife change, burnout, loss of direction, creative disconnection, identity transition or a significant inner, spiritual or non-ordinary experience.
You might be a professional, founder, creative or leader, but the job title is not really the point.
The common thread is usually simpler: the way you’ve been living, working or understanding yourself no longer feels like the whole truth.
It can support self-awareness, identity transition, meaning-making, body awareness, integration and practical next steps.
It doesn’t diagnose or treat mental health conditions, and it isn’t a replacement for counselling, psychotherapy, trauma treatment, psychiatric care, medical support or crisis services.
If something comes up that would be better held by a therapist, GP or another specialist, I’ll say so clearly.
Psychedelic preparation + integration coaching also has firm boundaries. It doesn’t include facilitation, sourcing, dosage advice, substance advice, medical advice, legal advice or encouragement to use any substance.
Those boundaries are not there to reduce the depth of the work.
They’re there to make sure the depth is held properly.
All coaching sessions are currently held online.
I am based in Brighton and work with clients locally, across the UK and further afield.
Online sessions offer privacy, flexibility and the ability to join from a familiar space without travel.
You will need a stable internet connection and somewhere you can speak without being overheard.
Transpersonal coaching is a form of coaching that works with the whole person, not just goals, performance or behaviour.
Alongside practical life concerns, it includes awareness, the nervous system, the body, inner patterns, values and meaning.
It recognises that many challenges, especially those that appear in midlife or leadership roles, are not problems to fix but signals that something deeper is reorganising.
Rather than offering strategies or advice, transpersonal coaching supports a shift in how you relate to experience itself.
From there, decisions, actions and direction tend to emerge more naturally and sustainably.
Each session begins by checking what feels most present and what would make the conversation useful.
We may explore the issue through reflective questions, body awareness, open awareness, parts work or practical inquiry.
The session follows what emerges rather than forcing a fixed process, but we keep returning to what the insight means for your life.
No.
Some people arrive with a specific decision or transition.
Others know only that something feels stuck, flat or out of alignment.
Part of the work can be discovering the question underneath the first question.
Transpersonal coaching can support self-awareness, meaning-making, identity transition, body awareness and practical change.
It is not therapy and does not diagnose, treat or manage mental health conditions. It is also not a replacement for counselling, psychotherapy, trauma treatment, psychiatric care, medical support or crisis services.
The coaching focuses on what is happening in your life now, the patterns and meanings around it and how you want to respond.
If something emerges that would be better held by a therapist, GP or another specialist, I will say so clearly.
It can be, depending on what you’re experiencing and the level of support you need.
Burnout is not always only about workload. It can also involve prolonged pressure, over-responsibility, disconnection from the body or an identity built around always coping.
Transpersonal coaching can help you notice those wider patterns and explore more sustainable ways of responding.
It isn’t a replacement for medical care, therapy or specialist support where those are needed.
Yes.
The process may include deeper reflection, but it does not stop there.
We explore what the insight means for your decisions, relationships, work, boundaries and next steps.
Open awareness is a core practice within transpersonal coaching.
It involves learning to notice and rest in a wider field of attention, rather than being narrowly identified with thoughts, emotions or roles.
From this wider awareness, experience can be met with more clarity, curiosity and choice.
Open awareness is not about zoning out or detaching from life. It supports deeper presence, better regulation and more skilful engagement with real situations, especially during stress or transition.
In this context, tunnel vision refers to a narrowing of awareness that often happens under sustained pressure, responsibility or stress.
When awareness contracts, thinking becomes repetitive, options feel limited and life can start to feel like a series of problems to manage rather than a wider field of possibility.
This isn’t a personal failing. It’s a natural human response to prolonged effort, uncertainty or overload.
Transpersonal coaching works with this directly, not by trying to think your way out of tunnel vision, but by helping awareness widen again. As awareness opens, people often experience more perspective, emotional range and choice, without needing to force change.
No.
Transpersonal coaching can make room for spiritual questions, meaning, awareness, imagination and non-ordinary experience, but there is no belief system to adopt.
Some clients bring spiritual experiences into the work. Others do not.
We work with your language, worldview and lived experience, keeping the conversation grounded in what is actually happening in your life.
Yes. All coaching sessions currently take place online.
I’m based in Brighton and work with clients locally, across the UK and further afield.
You’ll need a stable internet connection and somewhere private where you can speak comfortably.
One-to-one coaching usually takes place weekly, with a regular session time reserved for you.
The fee is £79 per week and is charged automatically until you ask to pause or end coaching.
You can reschedule a session with at least 48 hours’ notice. Cancelling an individual session doesn’t pause the weekly payment.
You’ll complete the booking, agreement, payment and initial onboarding securely through CoachAccountable.
Psychedelic integration coaching supports people to make sense of non-ordinary experiences and translate insight into everyday life.
This includes preparation before an experience and integration afterwards. The focus is on reflection, embodiment, meaning-making and staying grounded, rather than interpretation or explanation.
Integration coaching does not involve substances, facilitation or medical advice.
It operates within ethical coaching boundaries and is suitable whether experiences were ceremonial, therapeutic or self-directed.
Yes.
Psychedelic, plant medicine, spiritual and non-ordinary experiences can be explored openly within coaching scope.
The four-session psychedelic coaching package includes two preparation sessions before a planned experience and two integration sessions afterwards.
You don’t need to have had, or be planning, a psychedelic experience to benefit from transpersonal coaching. It is only one specialist route within the wider work.
I don’t facilitate experiences, source substances or provide dosage, medical or legal advice.
No. Transpersonal coaching supports a wide range of transitions and reorientations, with or without non-ordinary experiences.
The same principles that support integration, such as awareness, embodiment and meaning, are equally relevant for burnout, midlife change, leadership transitions and identity shifts.
Choose ongoing one-to-one coaching if you want support with identity, direction, burnout, creativity, work or a wider life transition.
Choose psychedelic preparation + integration if the work relates specifically to an independently arranged psychedelic, plant medicine or non-ordinary experience.
If you’re unsure, you’re welcome to book a free 30-minute conversation and talk it through first.
You don’t have to commit to coaching straight away.
If you’d like to ask some questions, explain what’s bringing you here or get a clearer sense of how the coaching works, you can book a free 30-minute conversation.
It isn’t a coaching session and there’s no pressure to continue. If the work feels right, you can choose your coaching route and book from there.
